DETAILS

Discover the fascinating journey of one of Arizona’s pioneering industries—mining. This program traces the evolution of mining from the perilous days of prospectors facing hazardous conditions and conflicts with Native Americans, to the advanced and efficient operations of modern times. Bill Hawes was born in Chile, where his father worked for Braden Copper Co. (Kennecott). He graduated from the New Mexico School of Mines in 1960 with a degree in Mining Engineering. Since that time, he has worked throughout the western states, primarily in underground mines, in all positions from entry level to Manager of Mining.
